New Estonia-Russia cross border cooperation project on Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Lake Peipsi/Chudskoe-Pskovskoe region

On 15 April, kick off meeting of the Estonia-Russian project “CuNaHe: Improved network of formal and informal education institutes to support Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Lake Peipsi/Chudskoe-Pskovskoe region” takes place in Tartu. The event is organized by Estonian lead partner Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation and brings together our partners Räpina Co-Educational Gymnasium, Pechory Secondary school nr 3, Russian NGO partner Lake Peipsi Project, also two associated partners - University of Tartu Center for Educational Innovation and Pskov State University and steering committee.

Development cooperation project “Social entrepreneurship in Kakheti - to support Temi community” presentation in Estonian Embassy in Tbilisi, January 11

Our social entrepreneurship and organic agriculture development project in Kakheti region has come to an end.
On January 11 social entrepreneurs, diplomats, representatives of national institutions are invited to Estonian Embassy in Tbilisi to learn more on Estonian development aid and more precisely on our social entrepreneurship and organic agriculture development project, implement in cooperation with TEMI community.
TEMI is a community and social enterprise based in Gremi village in Kakheti region. About 70 people with different backgrounds and abilities live and work here – in TEMIs vegetable gardens, greenhouse, vineyards etc.
Within our project organic juice production was started and during first season around 1700 bottles of apple, grape and pomegranate juice was produced and marketed.
The proejct is funded by Estonian Development Cooperation Program.

EPICAH project seminar in Tokaji report  discusses how to improve the policy instruments for cross-border cooperation process in the natural and cultural heritage protection.

The EPICAH project thematic seminar in Tokaji on 25 September region focused to discussion how to improve the policy instruments for cross-border cooperation process in the natural and cultural heritage protection. Speakers were sharing their best practices, ideas and passion to engage others to work together for better cross-border cooperation in the future.

Also, EPICAH project report  was introduced to the larger audience. The report discusses how is being enhanced the border effect in the protection and development of natural and cultural cross-border heritage and includes best practice examples.The report contains  information on the state of art on cultural and natural heritage, and Cross Border Tourism in seven EPICAH project  partner regions.
This report is giving main conclusions and a set of recommandations to the European Commission to be considered in the next Regulations concerning the structural funds programming period of 2021-27.
It includes the results of an on line survey where is underlined the perception of border areas actors on the EU intervention, and a set of recommandations for the future EU Cohesion Policy on Territorial Cooperation (2021-27).
This report also includes around 20 best practices examples, showing cases of success stories in the concerned border areas, and will be followed up by an Action Plan for each border area to be elaborated until end 2019, of paramount importance for the elaboration of future EU programs for these borders.

Seminar in Minsk on environmental education and accessibility to visually impaired people

20-21 March: In cooperation with our Belarus partners seminar on environmental education and accessibility to visually impaired people is organised.

Project aims to improve the quality of life for visually impaired people through increasing the accessibility to environmental objects and through that also grater involvement in social life.
Project works out environmental education paths and audio guides for  Minsk Botanical Garden and set up tactile infostends and print guides, by the end of 2018.

Global education weeks in Lake Peipsi region schools

In October and November global education weeks are organized in several Lake Peipsi region schools.
Schools organise fair trade cafe, discussion and film programs on sustainable production/consumption, volunteer work, quizzes etc.
Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation has prepared a new training program and material for teacher on environmental justice and -refugees. During global education week our experts run several pilot workshops - "Imaginary trip" - on climate refugees for primary school pupils; aiming to make children think on solidarity, tolerance, interdependency issues in our current world.

Schools have also participated in oster competition on climate change and climate refugees. Winners of the competition participated in the study tour to Tartu on 26 October and presented their poster at international SAME World conference.

Launch of the project "Project incubator: the Support to CSO Incubation Centre for Local Burmese NGOs of Chin State in Myanmar"

The project addresses the problem of insufficient competence and fundraising skills among Chin State’s CSOs, lack of their institutional capacity and network as well as lack of experiences and opportunities for project management and implementation.
We intend to increase the potential of Burmese local organisations from Chin State to act for and empower their local communities by providing them with the institutional capacity, competence in project development and management, fundraising skills and network of contacts with other NGOs.
Project partners ate Agency for Basic Community Development (Myanmar), Development Policy Foundation (Poland)  and Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation (Estonia).

Peipsi CTC starts a new Estonian-Russian cross border cooperation project " Friendly Cities: Accessible Natural and Cultural Urban Environment for People with Disabilities" 

The project works to assess the accessibility of natural and cultural facilities (mainly public parks and museums) and services for the needs of people with disabilities. We also develop and implement  educational activities and technical solutions for the adaptation of the facilities' infrastructure and services to the needs of people with disabilities.

The project is lead by Pskov NGO "Chudskoi Project" and is funded by European Commission.

Latvian, Russian and Estonian colleagues were invited to collect Estonian pearls of environmental education field

21 Russian, Latvian and Estonian nature centres’ specialists participated in five days study trip to Estonian nature education centres from 25th till 29th of September. The aims of the trip were to collect experiences in different nature and environmental education sites, to get good overview of Estonian environmental education system, to get acquainted with interactive methods and to create joint network with project partners and Estonian nature centres. All together 14 institutions and hiking tracks were visited.

Estonia – Latvia – Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme  project „Promoting nature education as efficient mean of awareness raising" (the short name of the project – “People with nature”) first partner meeting (kick-off meeting) took place in Latvia, Sigulda on 26th and 27th of June. The project is financed by the  European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013.

At the end of November 2011 Peipsi CTC presented a new collection of articles - "Transboundary Water Management in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Role of NGOs in promoting Integrated Water Resources Managment". Peipsi CTC participates in SLOW TOUR project

" SLOW TOUR -Sustainable Lake Oriented Walking TOURism in Europe" project aims at analysing, collecting and listing good practices, certification procedures and network experiences for tourism in lake areas to achieve effective and consistent sustainability and competitiveness. 

SLOW TOUR -  is a EC funded project, coordinated by  association “Trasimeno – Medio Tevere” (Italy), University of Perugia (Italy), Breda University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) and Global Nature Fund. in cooperation with 12 lake regions around Europe.

23-24 March an international seminar “ New Hansa: Opportunities, Challenges and Prospects for Russian Cities” took place in Pskov, Russia

The seminar is a part of a larger project, which aims to establish a practical dialogue and exchange experiences between the Russian Hanseatic cities  and European Hanseatic cities (Tartu, Rostock). Estonia was represented by Tartu Music Festival specialists and Peipsi Center for Tarnsboundary Cooperation project manager Margit Säre.

Peipsi Forum VIII; 13-14 December, in Pskov

On December 13-14, it is already the 8th occasion for the Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation and its partner Chudskoe Project, to organise Peipsi Forum. The traditionally organized at the end of each year before the relaxing Christmas holidays Peipsi Forum on transboundary cooperation brings together experts and stakeholders from the Estonian and Russian border areas and EU experts to exchange views on the experiences and deliberate on the future of the transboundary cooperation in the region.

Peipsi CTC started a project “ Hanseatic Cities: Revived Historical Links for Modern Culture Management”. The project aims to establish a practical cooperation platform between the Russian Hanseatic cities  and European Hanseatic cities (mainly Tartu, Viljandi, Kaunas and Rostock) ,exchange of information, experiences and good practices.
