DIY learning platform supports effective development of training organizations and the teaching staff in the digital competences

The Erasmus + project DIY Digital Education has developed a learning platform https://digitaledu.expertpool.bg/  that helps to allow the effective development of training organizations and the teaching staff in the digital competences

In the era of the digital world, we are facing increasing our digital competencies every day. The pressure to study something new is surrounding us every day. For example, as media is digitalizing in every day there is also pressure for elderly people to study new skills. Talking about education we can see that also this is under the pressure of using more and more digital resources, tools, and devices to follow the needs and development of modern society.

What is digital competence?

The concept of digital competence has emerged concurrently with technological development and as society has recognized the need for new competencies. The development of technologies enables and constantly creates new activities and goals, and the importance of digital competence is therefore constantly changing and must always be seen in relation to the current technology and its application (Skov 2016).

Widely we can divide digital competence is into the following domains: 1) Instrumental skills for using digital tools and media. 2) Knowledge, theories and principles related to technology. 3) Attitudes towards strategic use, openness, critical understanding, creativity, accountability and independence (Skov 2016).

The aim of developing digital competence in an educational institution is to support the development of the knowledge and skills of headteachers and teachers in order to develop the digital competence of the pedagogical staff of an educational institution.

The Erasmus + project DIY Digital Education has developed a learning platform https://digitaledu.expertpool.bg/  that aims to:

- sharing tools for recognition and validation of acquired knowledge and skills through innovative digital open badges and
- sharing resources to train teachers on how to use adapted frameworks in their work and how to assess their digital deficits and needs, and those of the organizations in which they teach.

It is a small step in adapting a model of competence framework in the field of digital skills according to the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) and DigCompOrg Framework (for organizations). The project team hopes this material will allow the effective development of training organizations and the teaching staff.
