Project „Promoting nature education as efficient mean of awareness raising” has been kicked off

Estonia – Latvia – Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme  project „Promoting nature education as efficient mean of awareness raising" (the short name of the project – “People with nature”) first partner meeting (kick-off meeting) took place in Latvia, Sigulda on 26th and 27th of June. The project is financed by the  European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013.

Estonian, Latvian and Russian joint project “People with nature” is focusing on promotion experience exchange among state institutions and non-governmental organizations in the fields of nature education and development of nature education centres.

The most visible outcomes of the project will be jointly developed modern nature education methods, study materials, as well as trained specialists in order to ensure sustainable nature education development and to inform public about the necessity of nature conservation. It is planned to develop capacity of 14 different nature education centres in all three countries by ensuring more favourable conditions for successful development of them. As end result we all have better possibilities to learn how to live with nature and protect it at the same time.

The joint meeting was attended by all 11 project partners – representatives from Latvia, Estonia and Russia – Natural History Museum Support Society, Gauja National Park Foundation and Dagda local municipality, Tartu Environmental Education Centre, Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation, Pskov regional public organization "Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov", Federal State Institution "The Sebezh National Park", "Pskov regional center of the development of gifted children and youth", State committee on natural resources use and environment protection, Saint-Petersburg charitable public organization "Biologists for nature conservation” as well as Nature Conservation Agency of Latvia, which is the Beneficiary.
During the meeting project activity plan and time schedule were negotiated and specified, as well as further project ideas and activities with a focus on nature education center development were shared and discussed. The meeting was significant because all partners had an opportunity to get acquainted and discuss project issues face to face for the first time. It is planned to hold the next project meeting in the September 2012 in Estonia but already before that the project undertakes first international activity for children: international children camp in Pskov in July 2012.
The project duration is 30 months – till the 30th of September 2014. Project is co-financed by the Estonia – Latvia – Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007 – 2013. Total funding of the project is 1 499 977 EUR, and Programme co-financing is 1 349 979 EUR. In Estonia project is co-financed by Environmental Investment Centre as well.
